The Dance Lab, LLC ("The Dance Lab," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website at thedancelab.studio and provides ballet training programs, a subscription video service ("Dance Lab Lite"), and related member services (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who this policy is for

Our Services are used by adults (including parents and guardians) and by minor dancers under the age of 18. Accounts for minors must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian. We rely on parents/guardians to provide consent for the collection and use of their child's information as described here.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide:

  • Account and contact information: parent/guardian name, email, phone; dancer name, date of birth or age, and dance background.
  • Application information: responses submitted through our audition application (current studio, training history, goals, video links, and similar).
  • Program records: attendance, progress notes, goals, pointe readiness, and similar training records created by our staff.
  • Payment information: processed by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not collect or store full card numbers or bank details on our systems. See Section 4.
  • Communications: messages you send us.

Information collected automatically:

  • Basic usage and device data (e.g., pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, browser type) via our hosting and analytics tools.
  • Video viewing activity within the member area (e.g., which lessons were watched), via our video provider (Mux).

3. How we use information

We use information to: create and manage accounts; process applications and enrollment; deliver training programs and the Dance Lab Lite video service; track attendance and progress and share it with the relevant dancer's parent/guardian; process payments and manage subscriptions; communicate with you; maintain security; and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use dancers' personal information for third-party advertising.

4. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. When you make a payment, your card or bank details are provided directly to Stripe and handled under Stripe's privacy policy and security standards. We receive limited information from Stripe (such as subscription status, the last four digits of a card, and payment outcomes) to manage your account. We do not store full payment card numbers.

5. How we share information

We share information only as needed to operate the Services, with service providers acting on our behalf, including: Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Mux (video hosting and playback), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Tally and Google (application form and associated spreadsheet), Vercel (hosting), and our analytics provider. Each processes information under its own terms and privacy commitments.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer.

6. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as an account is active and as needed to provide the Services, then for a reasonable period as required for legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution purposes. You may request deletion as described below.

7. Your choices and rights

You may review or update account information, request a copy or deletion of personal information, and unsubscribe from non-essential emails. Parents/guardians may exercise these rights on behalf of their minor dancer. To make a request, contact us at admin@thedancelab.studio.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards (including encryption in transit and provider-level protections) to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies necessary to operate the site, keep you logged in, and understand usage.

10. Children

We collect information about minor dancers only with parental/guardian involvement and only to provide the Services. We do not knowingly allow minors to create their own accounts without a parent/guardian. If you believe a minor has provided information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will address it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify account holders.
